  4.     I would like to add to your article on the Racketeer Influenced
  5. and Corrupt Organizations Act (LAW, Aug. 21). Reform of RICO's
  6. civil provisions is supported not only by accountants and
  7. securities and commodities dealers but also by the American Civil
  8. Liberties Union, the AFL-CIO, bankers, manufacturers and thousands
  9. of other Americans who stand to be branded as "racketeers" because
  10. an artful lawyer can turn virtually any dispute into a RICO
  11. lawsuit. The Securities and Exchange Commission also supports
  12. reform of the RICO law. Congress is considering two bills to reform
  13. civil RICO. They should be enacted as quickly as possible to return
  14. RICO to its original purpose: the pursuit of real racketeers.
